My name is Holly Vickery and I am a PhD student at the University of Reading. This survey forms part of my thesis which will contribute to my doctorate.
About my research
My research is looking at how we can improve the welfare and productivity of artificially reared goat kids with a focus on milk feeding and weaning methods.
It is important to me that my research can be used to inform practice on farm and is therefore essential that results are feasible for farmers to implement. The aim of this questionnaire is to understand what practices are currently being used on farm and identify areas in which changes could be made.
The results from this study will be used as part of my thesis and may be published as a report in a scientific journal. The survey is anonymous and no individuals will be identified.
What is involved?
This questionnaire consists of 5 sections and should take approximately 10 minutes of your time to complete. I am interested in what you are currently doing on your farm and how you might be willing to change this in the future; there are no right or wrong answers.
Once you have completed the survey, you will not be required to do anything else.
How have I been selected?
You may have received the link to this survey through your membership of a Goat Society, or via social media.
Only farmers that are artificially rearing goat kids are able to participate in this survey.
Only one survey should be submitted per farm, if a member of your farm has already completed the survey please do not do so again.
Confidentiality, storage and disposal of information
Your name and email address will only be collected if you choose to enter it so you can receive the results of the survey. They will be removed from your individual response and held in a separate password-protected file which only myself and my supervisor will have access to. These details will not be shared with third parties and will not be published as part of my research. Data from the survey will be fully anonymous and stored in a password protected file. The data will be securely stored until my PhD is completed (January 2023) and then deleted.
Do I have to take part?
Your participation is entirely voluntary. You do not have to take part in this survey and you are free to exit the survey at any point. Incomplete survey data will not be used for analysis. Once you submit the survey online your responses will be entered, and as they are anonymised it will not be possible to withdraw them.
If you decide to take part in the survey you are acknowledging that you understand the terms of participation as described above and that you consent to them.
Further Information and Contact Details
If at any stage you wish to receive further information about the project please contact me by email.
I welcome questions or comments about my research and would also be interested in hearing from farmers who might be interested in participating in future trials.
I very much appreciate your time in reading this and hope you will be able to complete my survey.
