We would be grateful to you if you could assist us by participating in our study to help us understand more about how uncertainty is related to emotional experience. We will ask you to complete a set of online questionnaires about how you find uncertainty and how it is related to your emotional experience in everyday situations. The questionnaires used are well validated and typically used for emotion research. The entire session will take approximately 20 minutes.
Some participants may find filling out the questionnaires to be boring or tiresome, and there may be some feelings of psychological discomfort associated with sharing information about how you process uncertainty and the emotions you experience. You are free to stop your participation at any time and for any reason. In addition, if you have any remaining questions or feel upset by any emotions experienced during the study, you may contact Dr. Jayne Morriss
Data confidentiality, storage and disposal of personal information
The study will not ask for your name. The questionnaire data obtained will only attach a number to each participant, and therefore it will not be possible to link any set of data with any individual. Your data will be kept confidential and securely stored (i.e. password protected) on a University of Reading server. Data collected from this study will be preserved and made available in anonymised form, so that they can be consulted and re-used by others. If you request to withdraw from the study via emailing the lead researcher or withdraw through not completing the questionnaire, your data will be permanently deleted. All questionnaire information collected for the project will be destroyed when no longer needed.
Taking part in this study is completely voluntary; you may withdraw at any time without having to give any reason. This application has been reviewed by the University Research Ethics Committee and has been given a favourable ethical opinion for conduct.
Who is organising and funding the research?
